On Monday, October 21, 2025, there was a strong attendance and lots of excitement and anticipation at the ribbon cutting ceremony of the new Mathews Family YMCA Childcare Preschool located at the Westville Baptist Church on Mathews Main Street. The Mathews Rotary Club and Mathews Family YMCA appreciates everyone who has donated time and sweat equity to efforts to get the preschool ready for kids this fall. Over the past few months, our club has played a key role in supporting the development of the Mathews Family YMCA Childcare Preschool, a long-needed resource for working families in our county. From fundraising over $102,000, (includes generous matching funds from the White Family Fund) site planning to assisting with several service projects, Rotary members have stepped up to help bring this vision to life. Pictured below are some of our members at this week's ribbon cutting ceremony. From left to right: Tim Hill, Bill Stearns, Stan Allen, Susan Murdoch, Craig DeRemer, Dee Russell, David Winch, Mike Pittman, and Ron Lambert. This project represents more than just a building—it’s an investment in the future of Mathews. Access to quality childcare and early education is essential for strong families and thriving communities, and we’re honored to be part of making it happen. If you or someone you know is looking for childcare, we encourage you to learn more through the Mathews Family YMCA. https://www.ymcavp.org a Custom interior Mural brings character to the spaceOne special project that was included in the preschool renovation was a customized mural in one of the children's activity rooms.
